Tips for a Great Meeting

Examples questions:

  1. What are some key challenges you've faced while entering AI or game development, and how did you overcome them?

  2. Looking back, what would you do differently in terms of your career path?

  3. How did you balance learning theoretical concepts with hands-on project work early in your career?

  4. What unexpected skills or knowledge have been most valuable in your work that I might not learn in school?

  5. How do you stay updated with industry trends, and how important is continuous learning in your experience?

Do's and Don'ts:

Prepare beforehand - you are the driver of this meeting, and your mentor will be waiting for you to ask about what you want to know.

Ask about personal experiences - in-depth stories provide you more insights, and people love talking about themselves.

Express gratitude - a simple thanks at the end goes a long way. Name what has been helpful, or just simply thank them for taking time to talk with you.

🚫

Don't ask for a job - keep it focused on learning. However, you can ask if they know anyone who's hiring, or who else they think you should talk to and learn from.

🚫

Don't ask generic questions - avoid questions that could be easily answered with a Google search and don't rely on personal experience.

🚫

Don't be overly formal - your mentor is here because they identify with your background, so feel free to share your own dreams and worries, just keep it brief.

Last but not least, remember to have fun and follow your curiosities!
